A powerful doctrine that is used in the Book of Mormon that demonstrates a deepened doctrine or greater view is the phrase, “Because of iniquity.”

This phrase or something similar is used about 40 times in the Book of Mormon.

The Lord must have wanted us to know what happens when we commit sin.

The phrase is instructional to us as Gods children on many levels.

First, it teaches us there are consequences to iniquity.

It reveals to us the cause and effect relationship in sin.

In God’s divine plan, because of iniquity, certain things must happen.

Second, because of iniquity, we limit our blessings and opportunities.

Because of iniquity, we restrict the flow of the spirit.

Because of iniquity, we cannot fulfill our potential.

Third, the Book of Mormon is filled with numerous doctrines and insights that tell us of the specific problems and dilemma's that iniquity brings.

• Iniquity changes our hearts.
• Iniquity brings sorrow and despair.
• The Lord straitens us because of iniquity.
• Because of iniquity, the land will be cursed.
• Iniquity will disturb our prosperity.
• Curses and afflictions will come upon us because of iniquity.
• Generations will be destroyed because of iniquity.
• Because of iniquity, we will mourn.
• Because of iniquity, we get placed in dangerous situations.
• We suffer great loss because of iniquity.
• Because of iniquity belief diminishes, the church shrinks.
• Because of iniquity prophecy and revelation diminish.
• Because of iniquity fear increases.
• Iniquity causes people to fall.
• Because of iniquity miracles and healings cease. Because of iniquity despair cometh.

Finally, the only change that will never happen because of iniquity is that we will never lose the love of God.

God’s mercy and love are infinite. They are eternal, they are constant, and they never waver.

Let us avoid iniquity so we may be entitled to every promised blessing God has to offer.
