When my nephew, Shane, was six years old, he was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up. He was adamant that he wanted to be an ice cream man. When asked why, he simply said, “Because they make people happy.”

There are parallels between young Shane’s thoughts and the thoughts of a loving Heavenly Father. We believe in a God who is inviting and encouraging us to be happy and to experience blessings through living and enjoying all the “flavors” of a myriad of wonderful principles. All that is expected of us in return is our commitment to those principles and a simple expression of gratitude to a loving Father who has been so generous in sharing them with us.

Let us be grateful on a daily basis that we not only know the whereabouts of this ice
cream store, but that we have the privilege and opportunity of enjoying its delicious offerings. Let us recognize and rejoice in the goodness and the blessings of a wonderful God who never stops “opening the windows of heaven” for us.

I have observed that those who gratefully acknowledge the blessings that come through those windows are “added upon,” meaning, many more blessings flow to them; so many, in fact that “there is not room enough to receive them” (Malachi 3:10).
