Appreciation

religious spiritual May 05, 2021

I had a heartwarming experience at our local bank a short time ago. One bank teller had worked at our bank for nearly six years. This sweet lady had survived at least five managers and all kinds of bank turnover. She was the only constant in this branch. She was always kind, always friendly, always smiled, and always called me by name. After six years, she finally took a position of advancement at another branch further away.

I was shocked to learn she was leaving. She had been such a mainstay there for so long. I was grateful for her kind service and for the terrific assistance she had given me for numerous transactions and complex banking matters. I really had never thanked her very sincerely.

I don’t normally do such things, but, on her last day at the branch, I had a little extra time, so I drove to a flower shop and I picked up some things for her. I am certain that a bank teller hears a lot of thank-yous vocalized, but does not receive a lot of sincere, plus one thank- yous.

In this instance, I brought in some balloons, a vase of flowers and a couple of gift cards. I told her sincerely that she had been the best teller I had ever had. My heart was touched by her look of delight and appreciation. She was shocked by this recognition, but so grateful. For a moment, the entire bank stopped to observe her being recognized.

When I walked out of the bank that day, my heart was filled for three reasons. First, she knew that I was grateful to her for all she had done. Second, her heart was touched that someone had specifically recognized her wonderful efforts in a deeper manner. Third, I was changed by performing a rather simple, plus one act of thanksgiving.
