Don't Worry, You Are Still Beautiful

spiritual Nov 24, 2020

I recall a tender story on a day when my four-year-old son Taft was trying to comfort his nine-month-old baby sister Holland. Holland was screaming and crying without any reprieve. A kind and gentle Taft picked her up and rocked her while attempting to soothe her cries. Despite his best efforts, they were of little help as the crying continued. He continued to look for ways to comfort and calm his little sister. He finally said in his greatest attempt to calm her emotions, “Holland, don’t worry; you are still beautiful.”

I have always felt our Heavenly Father does something similar for us in our moments of sadness, sorrow, and despair. It is easy for me to visualize a loving God wrapping His all-powerful arms around a struggling son or daughter and consoling us. I can almost hear His voice and feel His love as He says, “Don’t worry, my child. You are my beautiful son or daughter. I will console you in your afflictions.” I am grateful to know that our God is a God of eternal, infinite, and omnipotent love.

I’ve experienced times in my life when I have desperately needed to feel His love. On those days and at pivotal moments in my life, I have felt the arms and love of a  merciful father and a merciful Savior comfort and console me. When I have felt their love, I have been calmed and assured that all will be well and the storm will pass. I can see an all-loving, all-merciful Savior sweeping His children up into His arms and saying, “Don’t worry my daughter or son, everything will be okay—I am with you. I will be your guide; take my yoke upon you. You are my child, and I love you and will not leave you comfortless. You are priceless to me.”
