Experience and growth

faith family religious self improvement spiritual Feb 15, 2022

Never forget the pattern of the crocodile; a crocodile has 64 teeth, but typically goes through over three thousand teeth in a lifetime. Like the crocodile, we, too, go through thousands of experiences. Just as every tooth enhances a crocodile’s experience in eating, so, too, can every experience enhance our spiritual, emotional and mental growth.

These experiences can be a critical part of growth, opportunity and education if we allow them to be. We must recognize how important every life experience and opportunity is. God desperately wants us to grow and progress and develop deepened Christlike attributes. He knows that happiness comes through powerful progress, which can only come through experiences that build faith and encourage repentance.

A wise Heavenly Father has invited us to grow through education, training, development, encouragement, and constant guidance through the word of God, living prophets, and powerful parents and church leaders. In the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet we are reminded: “Education is an important part of Heavenly Father’s plan to help you become more like Him.

He wants you to educate your mind and to develop your skills and talents, your power to act well in your responsibilities, and your capacity to appreciate life. The education you gain will be valuable to you during mortality and in the life to come… Education is an investment that brings great rewards and will open the doors of opportunity that may otherwise be closed to you… Maintain an enthusiasm for learning throughout your life. Find joy in continuing to learn and in expanding your interests. Choose to actively participate in the learning opportunities available to you” (p.9-10). The Lord is constantly inviting us to stretch and progress through education, personal growth, and daily spiritual enlightenment.
