God never forgets
Oct 05, 2021
God’s hand is in our lives even in the trivial things, things that seem mundane and unimportant. A very recent little tender mercy reminded me that God remembers us even when we are simply having a bad day, week or month.
Every Thanksgiving I send out a few little gratitude letters to people who have impacted my life in a positive way and inspired me to be a better person. When I write these letters, I am not seeking a response, I just want people to know how grateful I am for their influence in my life or the lives of my children.
This past year I had written my gratitude letters in advance. I was awakened extremely early (3:30 a.m.) on Thanksgiving morning, so I got up to edit and review the letters before I sent them. I had a last-minute impression during those hours to write one more.
The impression was to send a letter to one of my wife’s friends, a woman who is a wonderful mother and devoted saint. I had not thought at all about writing her, as I usually don’t send letters to women, but the impression was very specific and came at a unique time. I wrote the letter and sent it, not expecting a return, but just wanting her to know that our family was very aware of her faithfulness and devotion to the Savior.
A response came just a few hours later. “I am currently out of town with my family ... this morning I left on a walk alone as I contemplated a few struggles I am currently feeling and how I should move forward. On my way back, I checked my email and read this email which brought me to tears! Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. They came at a point that I was feeling alone and incapable!”
I am so grateful for a God who never forgets His children and remembers them with constant little reminders that He has not forgotten them. I am grateful for a God that governs, inspires, directs, and loves—continuously. I am grateful that occasionally He uses me to show His love. I am grateful that, when I need it most, He showers me with His love and spirit.
I have felt His love through others. I have felt His love through countless assurances and evidences. This simple experience was a reminder to me of how small things are such great evidences that God is real and that He loves His children.
