Plus One

religious spiritual May 11, 2021

Some time ago, my wife and I attended a Lindsey Stirling concert. Lindsey, a marvelous performer, who plays the violin and dances, has made a name for herself through internet fame and music videos. She is a terrific talent.

The concert my wife and I attended was a Christmas performance in her home state of Arizona. In front of a sold-out crowd, Lindsey included a marvelous plus one that night. She obviously had invited close friends and family, but she also invited her high school violin teacher, Mrs. Dudley.

During the performance, Lindsey stopped the show, asked her teacher to stand, and proceeded to honor Mrs. Dudley. She expressed gratitude for this wonderful and faithful teacher who had helped instill in her a desire to develop her musical talents. Now, I am not an expert, but I doubt many high school violin teachers ever get a lot of recognition from a famous performer.

This night was different, however. I am certain that night that no one walked taller or prouder than Mrs. Dudley, the recognized and appreciated high school violin teacher. It was a powerful act of plus one gratitude by a wonderful person.
