One of the cars we drive for work does not have a rearview mirror. When the mirror broke off, I felt like it was not a very critical feature of the car. After months of driving without the mirror, my opinions have completely changed. I can now say that I did not fully appreciate the value of a rearview mirror until I drove a car without one.

With no rearview mirror, a much less safe driving situation is created because it is much harder to change lanes and to see the speed of traffic behind you. It creates a deeper blind spot and less visibility of other vehicles in the areas behind your car. There simply is far less clarity.

I have learned that spiritual observations in life can be metaphorically like driving a car and utilizing a few of the vehicle’s key critical features. It is when we use these features and understand them that we realize how valuable they really are. As drivers, we must appreciate the rearview mirror for the valuable tool it is.

Likewise, a spiritual rearview mirror can help us to look back in a powerful way to remember and to see more clearly what the Lord has done for us. It is a blessing to remember the wonderful things the Lord has done for us. The beauty of the rearview mirror effect is that it will help us to remember and never forget the goodness of God in our lives.
