Small adjustments

faith religious self improvement spiritual Nov 16, 2021

When My daughter Holland was about six she taught me a powerful, humorous lesson in making small adjustments. Frequently when my wife and I would hug in the kitchen her and her brothers would sing a little tune or do a little chant, “Kiss on the lips, kiss on the lips, kiss on the lips.” My wife and I would respond by kissing.

One week I had a big cold sore on my upper lip. My wife and I were talking and hugging in the kitchen and my daughter looked at us and was going to start her chant, but then she looked closely at my upper lip. She then thought for a moment and said, “Kiss on the lower lip, kiss on the lower lip, kiss on the lower lip.” It was a small adjustment, but it was a humorous moment that was unforgettable.

As you wake up and make small adjustments in your life, they will yield unforgettable results. As your focus becomes more eternal in nature, a loving God will reward you for your efforts. As you listen to the voice in the tower and act, your life will never be the same again.

The invitation of this book comes from the people of Alma who had been greatly afflicted, the scriptures remind us they were “awakened to a remembrance of their duty” (Alma 4:3). May we also be awakened in the same manner. “Someone once said that the courageous man finds a way, and the ordinary man finds an excuse.”3  May we all be courageous as we arise from the dust and come unto Christ.
